Twain said these….”The Almighty has said, no doubt: ‘Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.”
Does it occur that Twain is finaly a believer?
The tongue-in-cheek version of this is “In God we trust… all others pay cash”. But the serious question is in WHICH god do we trust? My God or your god? Who gets to pick?
Is it acceptable to say ” in Allah we trust”? Or ” in Yahweh we trust”? How about “in Indra we trust”?
Too bad Mr. Clemens isn’t with us today… we could us him on this blog!
There’s a new book of Twain’s material coming out in the fall. He stipulated that certain of his writings could not be released until 100 years after his death so we’re all going to see new material from a long dead great writer. I’m sure that among these writings will be more explicit thoughts on god and religion which would have been a scandal and tarnish to his reputation at the time.
