“Religion is only as good as the people who interpret the religion and in the course of that, fallible human beings – mainly men – will make judgments which are not necessarily true to the basic principle that men women are of equal value.”
Cherie Booth

This quote makes the faulty assumption that religion (and thus the existence of gods) can possibly be made to make sense. Cherie shouldn’t make that assumption so blithely.

Dan SHUT UP. She made a correct statement.A lot of men are not willing to accept women as equals. It sounds like you may be one of them.

Ms Booth is denying the truth of her own religion (she’s a roman catholic). If ‘scripture’ is the word of a god, then surely it must all be infallible – there can be no flexibility to interpret it or you are into the mire of conflicting opinions straight away! Her bible clearly says that women can never be men’s equals let alone superiors. Here are some illustrative quotations:
1 Tim 3:14,15; 2:11-15 “But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” (St Paul)
1 Cor 11:3-10 “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
A quick search on the internet will provide many more.
Ms Booth is trying to cherry-pick scripture to suit herself. Does realise what she is saying?
Ms Booth is a barrister and hopes to become a judge. It would be unfortunate if she were to be successful in this ambition: she has shown in at least one way that she cannot evaluate evidence – she is religious.

Is Cherie saying that we can cherry pick (sorry) from the scriptures and fill in any blanks. In which case as long as I don’t covert my neighbours wife, nor his ox or nor his ass, it’s ok to covert my neighbours wife’s ass or indeed my neighbours ass.

On a serious note
With regard to commandment 10
Apparently my neighbour has a house, a man servant, a maid servant an ox an ass and a wife.
Interpret that.

Tech,
Did I criticize her for the last part of her quote? No, I criticized her for the first part.
