“To the men of religion, women's lives simply do not matter: 'respect for life' never ever means 'respect for a woman's life.'”

    On the religious male bigot, it’s not even “respect for life”, it’s “respect for [MY] life”. Every time that I’ve come across a religious man that broods hate for either the other sex, or homosexuals, I find consistently find one thing brooding in them, complete and total ego driven selfishness. The only thing that is above them is their “savior” and their “God”, and that is generally only in bits and pieces.

    Well it’s certainly true of the fundie types, particularly of the Abrahamic tradition. I’ve just finished Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s Infidel. The bits about her early life as a Somalian Muslim woman are truly horrific.

    @admin
    What is almost as incomprehensible as western democracies tolerating this abuse is that women still choose to be members of these misogynistic cults. You can sort of understand how a Saudi woman gets trapped in Islam, but why would a mature educated western woman choose to be a Catholic? beats me.

    I think this quote is an extremist view, except for perhaps the Islamic religions.

    Obviously tens of thousands of examples can be shown within the christian ranks, however I know dozens of faithful who do not appear to differentiate between male and female. Regarding abortion; most of these people are fighting for the unborn child and would do the same even if it were men who normally carried the fetus. It is simply their own silly beliefs on the topic that take them down this path, not sexuality.

    If this quote were slightly reworded to state:
    “To some men of religion, women’s lives simply do not matter: ‘respect for life’ usually does not mean ‘respect for a woman’s life.’”

    Then I think it would be accurate.

    unborn child

    You mean embryo or foetus.
