“The defamation of religions [UN resolution] protects ideas rather than individuals, and makes the state the arbiter of which ideas are true. It requires the state to sort good and bad ideologies.”

It’s frankly stunning to me how religious partisans cannot see the absolute untenable implications of this nonsense being pushed by the fragile and hyper-offended forces of Islam.

  2. solomon Says:

Ahhh….just the typical mere baseless accusations. No need to bother.

  3. John Says:

Be careful CaptainZero1969, solomon is not a very happy muslim. Put down your AK 47 now solomon… CaptainZero1969 is not drawing pictures of muslims or does he need to bounce his head up and down 5 times a day to fake faith.

  4. solomon Says:

    Fruit for thoughts.

Man originating from apes is a hoax.
Provide fossil proofs of its gradual trasformation.

  5. CaptainZero1969 Says:

    Baseless?

“Even apparently innocuous beliefs, when unjustified, can lead to intolerable consequences. Many Muslims, for instance, are convinced that God takes an active interest in women’s clothing. While it may seem harmless enough, the amount of suffering that this incredible idea has caused is astonishing. The rioting in Nigeria over 2002 Miss World Pageant claimed over two hundred lives; innocent men and women were butchered with machetes or burned alive simply to keep that troubled place free of women in bikinis. Earlier in the year, the religious police in Mecca prevented paramedics and firefighters from rescuing scores of teenage girls trapped in a burning building. Why? Because the girls were not wearing the traditional head covering that Koranic law requires. Fourteen girls died in the fire; fifty were injured.”

  6. solomon Says:

[35:25] If they disbelieve you, those before them have also disbelieved. Their messengers WENT TO THEM WITH clear proofs, and the Psalms, and the enlightening scriptures.

So HELL is a just place for you dear John.Case closed.Amen

  7. CaptainZero1969 Says:

R(Sol) should ask for his money back. His degree in Evolutionary Biology isn’t worth the crayon it’s scribbled in.

Just when I think I may perhaps have found a site for serious discussion I come in to find polarized jibber jabber.

    Na….na…na na na
    They lose

  10. solomon Says:

    Dear CaptainZero1969,

All your citings are orchestrated to tarnish the true teachings of Islam. You will be juged for that in the afterlife.

  11. John Says:

solomon… you have to be a vested interest preacher. For no one in their right mind could believe that pig shit but you.

I ask you sir with all due respect: Why would or could a thinking human being possible believe that there could be all the answers for humankind in only one book; and a book written for a pedophile to boot?

  12. solomon Says:

    Dear John,

What pig shit you’re talking about?Come on blurt it out & lets have a debate on it.
That was only in your skeptic mind thinking or making wild accusations that a thinking human being possibly believe that all the answers for humankind in only one book.We don’t think it that way.The book is a reference or a guide for a true path which contains things, mysteries that is beyond human knowledge & grasp so that we are not swayed.

  13. Atheist MC Says:

What pig shit you’re talking about?Come on blurt it out & lets have a debate on it

Solomon, I invite you to point to a comment thread where you have ever debated anything.

  14. Atheist MC Says:

As far as the quote goes, I cannot help but quote Greta Christina

“Religion is a hypothesis about the world: the hypothesis that things are the way they are, at least in part, because of supernatural entities or forces acting on the natural world. And there’s no good reason to treat it any differently from any other hypothesis. Which includes pointing out its flaws and inconsistencies, asking its adherents to back it up with solid evidence, making jokes about it when it’s just being silly, offering arguments and evidence for our own competing hypotheses…and trying to persuade people out of it if we think it’s mistaken. It’s persuasion. It’s the marketplace of ideas. Why should religion get a free ride”

I have this permanently posted on the masthead of my own blog.

  15. Atheist MC Says:

I really must stop feeding the troll but

Man originating from apes is a hoax.
Provide fossil proofs of its gradual trasformation.

Take some time off from annoying us to learn something. Try this list of hominid species with descriptions of the fossils identified. Read what evolutionary theory actually says and then try to have a rational, measured informed debate about it instead of Ka KA KAing from willful ignorance. Allah (you believe) gave you a brain, at least do him and your faith the honour of using it.

  16. tech Says:

Well I guess the fact that we enjoy freedom in this country, allows us to do and say whatever we want within the law of the land. How can I expect a person with different beliefs to agree with everything I say. My God knows what my needs are after all he made this body. Just the same as a auto maker. You would not bring your ford to a gm dealer. Its sad that a lot of people don’t know their maker. But when it comes to answering certain questions. I’m sorry I have no answers. I think I said this before. I have been serving God for about 35 yrs.Two things I’m sure of ,First there is a God second I’m not Him.

  17. Atheist MC Says:

Which country is that? The internet is not bound by national borders.

  18. Holysmokes Says:

I dunno. The Chinese are finding out differently. No more Google!

  19. Holysmokes Says:

I guess I don’t quite understand the quote. How can defamation (aka false accusations) towards religion protect ideas, but not an individual? Is there a new law being enacted in the UK which can shed some light on this?

  20. Atheist MC Says:

Its a New U.N resolution largely backed by Muslim countries. Ostensibly to protect religious groups and ideas from discrimibation, but more likely to protect them from criticism.

  21. CaptainZero1969 Says:

Spain translates more books into Spanish each year than the entire Arabic speaking world has translated into Arabic since the 9th century. Spain also has a GDP greater than the entire Islamic world combined. This demonstrates the deplorable stagnation which must be considered a feature of the Islamic creed. So, western countries with high Muslim birth rates, this is what you have to look forward to.

  22. John Says:

solomon: I’ll start off easy with 2 questions for our rational debate.

Question 1: The after life; Why do so many muslims kill each other; is it so they can go there?

Question 2: This god you praise; why do not our fellow planet dwellers (our fellow mammals) not line up on so called holly days and get down on their knees and fill up with the holy scriptures?

  23. Oxymoronic Christhinker Says:

Atheist MC says: Solomon, I invite you to point to a comment thread where you have ever debated anything.

    Indeed!!!

The UN Resolution referred to by the quote is a bad idea for everyone, especially the religious. Too bad so many religionists, especially Islamicists, have their head so far up their asses they can’t see it.

  24. Oxymoronic Christhinker Says:

Just for the hell of it:

What children don’t understand, and can’t understand until they grow up some, is how much the whole fabric and process of human society depends on everybody agreeing to ignore, most of the time, the fact that all of us are, most of the time, inadequate, incompetent, pitiful, and, in fact, naked to our enemies. None of us really has very much in the way of spiritual, moral clothing. We dress ourselves in rags. And we agree to say nothing about it. To a very large extent, it is human charity that clothes us.
    – Ursula K. LeGuin (remarks about the children’s story, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”)

  25. CaptainZero1969 Says:

Oxy – I like the quote and I’d like to read your take on it, if you would.

  26. solomon Says:

    Dear John,
I don’t have to answer to your silly accusations

    Dear Atheist MC,
You don’t have to refer me to some lousy sites
Just “Provide fossil proofs of its gradual trasformation.”

    Dear CaptainZero1969,
Where did you get that silly Punjabi image?

More cool news on the dinosaurs – first “true-rendering” of one of the ancestors of birds (hi Solomon!):
    http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/01/100127-dinosaurs-color-feathers-science/o/

If you won’t go to the various “lousy sites” you have been referred to, Solomon, then obviously you have no interest in debating the overwhelming evidence for the “gradual transformation” of species through eons of deep time, ie, EVOLUTION. You are incapable of understanding even the terms of the debate (ie – oversimplifying here – the theory of evolution is not really debatable; what is debatable is how, exactly, it works, and what it might mean, especially for religion). Your assertions and “arguments” are so silly that they are not even wrong. You are a willfully ignorant silly fool. You are an embarrassment to religionists of all kinds. You are a wearer of rags and naked to your “enemies.” You are a pitiable creature who lives in intellectual and spiritual poverty – by choice! You do your god Allah a disservice with your lame attempts to speak for it. Please, for your own sake and that of Allah, shut your mouth and make some little attempt to think! But you will not get any of this, will you? You are a silly, ignorant, foolish primate. Go back to the trees, Solomon, where you belong. Have a banana – it was made by Allah to fit your grip perfectly.

  30. Mohammed the Prophet Says:

    Solomon wrote:

“Man originating from apes is a hoax.”

For once you actually said something that is correct. However, you mistakenly believe that atheists make this claim.

    Wrong.

It’s fucking morons like you who make this claim on behalf of atheists because you DON’T HAVE ONE SINGLE FUCKING CLUE AS TO HOW EVLOUTION WORKS!

Do yourself a favour and go read a book, you fucking idiot. You’re an embarrassment to human thought.

    Sincerely,

Mohammed. Praise be unto me, etc.

  31. Atheist MC Says:

“Man originating from apes is a hoax.”

For once you actually said something that is correct. However, you mistakenly believe that atheists make this claim.

Er.. you do realise the subtlety of this will be completely lost on Solomon who will take it that you are agreeing?

  32. Atheist MC Says:

Just “Provide fossil proofs of its gradual transformation.”

While it would be nice to have a complete fossil record of the evolution on hominins from the common ancestor of modern humans and modern apes, the chances of that happening are slim. Not, as you wil no doubt maintain, because those species didn’t exist, but because the mechanism by which fossils are preserved (I’m not going into this, look it up) means that such fossils will be very rare. It is a tribute to the dilligence of scientists that we have found what we have.
Nor is the paucity of fossils a reason to discount human evolution as there is plenty of eveidence from genetics and molecular biology to support it too. As time and research progresses the facts of evolution, including humans, will only get stronger. Your creationist myths will have nowhere to hide Ka Ka…oh what’s the point….?

  33. Tony Provenzano Says:

I really used to believe this was a great site.
    Such quality in its comments.
Now most have degraded to rants, and name calling because the site is really being dominated by someone you just can’t quite bring yourself to ignore.

Review the quality difference once he takes over.

I will continue to periodically drop in, but truthfully, I have better things to do now, and I won’t (I’d actually be embarrased) recommend the site any longer.

  34. solomon Says:

The theory of evolution still remain a HOAX if you all can’t get the fossil proof of its gradual transformation. The plenty of eveidence from genetics and molecular biology to support it can be refuted. Only fossil evidence are solid proof that could be account for.I have a suggestion. Why don’t you all with your masters Darwin & Dawkins form a team & start DIGGIN for the fossils. To Hell you will find it.

  35. tech Says:

Faith is the Victory that over comes the world. You only need a little of it.Faith the size of a grain of mustard seed can move mountains.

  36. Holysmokes Says:

Thanks for the link Atheist MC.

I’ve done a little additional investigating and this resolution strikes me as one that needlessly protects religions, especially Islam. Its easy to see how such a thing can be misused as a battering ram against individual rights. Moreover, I fail to see how this is going to protect against such violations. This resolution is in dire need of an overhaul. Unfortunately I now understand today’s quote and unfortunately it’s correct.

  37. Greg Says:

The following quote is quite applicable to a certain muslim troll on this site:

“To be ignorant of one’s ignorance is the malady of the ignorant.”
    – Amos Bronson Alcott

  38. Atheist MC Says:

    Tony Provenzano

It kinda depends on how you look at it. The good thing about Solomon is that s/he actually makes the salient point for rationalism, S/He is the perfect example of what religion at its worst can do to a mind. Let#s be honest AQOTD is bound to be provocative to someone. If atheists were just spouting off in a mutual admiration orgy that would be boring. The dynamic is improved when intelligent theists like Oxy contribute and the fact that the thread often gets de-railed is pretty irrelevent when you consider it only really has a 24 hr life span anyway. Perversley Solomon and tech provide more continuity to the [meta]debate here than anyone else.
I have a theory about tech BTW, I think tech is a closet atheist…

  39. Greg Says:

Tony is right, in a way. I don’t mind commenting indirectly to certain trolls within the group, but to address them directly only gives them a credibility they don’t deserve.

I prefer to ignore the ignorant and focus on those – like Oxy and, sometimes, tech – who actually are open to discussion.

  40. solomon Says:

They all just can’t fool & get rid of me. Thats it.They all will end up in frustration.Keep on throwing your dice. I will break them up to pieces.
