“The Catholic Church has always preferred that the great mass of its followers remain illiterate. That great icon of English Catholicism Sir Thomas More did his best to prevent the translation of the Bible into English preferring that priests instruct people rather than they read the nonsense themselves. To this end he was not above using torture. Once the masses started to read and understand what was in the Bible we started to see the Church's power crumble.”

As are all religions; following Atheism is on the move upward and that truth will always come out; not even a troll can stop that!

One problem with this quote is that you could compare almost any group-speak. Lawyers used Latin; medical doctors used Greek, computer nerds use their own specialized lexicon and maze of acronyms, chemists talk in their own terms, and even Islamic Trolls use rambling gibberish.
Take heart in that information is so easily available now.

Educated people (and I’m talking a basic education) are less likely to believe in one religion or another. Educated people ask too many questions and don’t take everything they are told or read at face value.
More importantly they are difficult to manipulate and less likely to part with their cash for the sake of their church/mosque.
Studies show there is a direct link between education and atheism.
There is an interesting article here: http://atheism.about.com/od/excusingantiatheistbigotry/a/Privileged.htm
“but it suggests that in America, atheists tend to be a bit better educated and probably tend to make more money that the average.”
Perhaps this is gods idea of a joke 😉

They are not educated. They are stubborn hearted fools that can’t be educate. They should have found truth if they are really educated.

But, more to the point of the quote, once people learn critical thinking skills and they have native language access to the doctrine or holy books, they are much more likely to figure out that they are dealing with superstition and control.

steve,
id have to agree. i think the biggest problem in islam may be that everyone reads the quran in arabic and gets to the deeper translations later on. most people are duped into it by the poetry and sound of it all, arabic is actually a really a beautiful language. but i will add on that as far as the catholic church goes, in the vatican at least, most of the clergy are very educated in the sciences and disregard the majority of the mythology in the bible. they’re not being completely honest with themselves when doing so, but at least they are passing on valuable and practical knowledge to future generations that faith does not trump reality. this may be a huge step in rendering such primitive religions obsolete.

Alavi, in my humble opinion fear is at the base of all superstitious behaviors. Enable a better standard of living with meaningful work, education, and freedom, and it goes away.

“In my humble opinion fear is at the base of all superstitious behaviors. Enable a better standard of living with meaningful work, education, and freedom, and it goes away.”
I’d like to see that as a future quote of the day here. Nicely stated.

If I were to guess on education = wealth.I would continue to guess as to where some of you will be getting your next meal. You talk about money like it was everything.I’m glad that I found all I need in God.All the education in the world will never compete with the wisdom of God. Atheists, you guys haven’t seen the beast thats going to eat you yet.

Your god sounds like an ***hole, tech. I’m content without him. You can keep your ignorance and your hollow bliss.
April 20th, 2010 at 18:40
Michael, thanks for the kind words.
Tech, you sound like you are off your meds again. Education does not equal wealth, I promise. But it does give you understanding, and sometimes it gives you the power to escape superstition and fear.
If you have found all you need in your god, then you need very little besides your own imagination.
‘Beast’ that’s going to eat us? What are you imagining now?
And Tech, I notice you never back up any of your claims. Please respond with some substance (and no, that does not mean biblical rhetoric) so I have some excuse not to label you another god-botting Troll.
Please.

Dear Michael,
You think you can get away citing bad words to God.Wait till your time of death, when the angels hit your face & back while saying “feel the pain of the burning hell”.It will be a terrible sight.Just wait.
