“The last shred of the Catholic claim to being an ethical institution has been eliminated by the cruel perfidy of its clerics.”

That, and saying that contraception is from the devil, and that AIDS is God’s punishment doesn’t help them much, either.

Too bad that I can clearly see it’s only a ploy for a ninja style form of proselytizing to gain more members and that wonderful green stuff, and a way to scare people into believing that even being lightly promiscuous will bring about “God’s [loving] wrath”.

Gregory Paul has written some interesting stuff, no doubt. From a sociological point of view, he argues that society is better off without god. Also, he has published findings on the inverse relationship between religiosity and societal welfare.

However, it seems like this quote is a bit of a truism, don’t you think? Hasn’t the Catholic Church always had severe morality issues?

    GreatEighthSin,
Oh and don’t forget how Catholics are willing to condemn a 9-year-old for aborting a baby that would have killed her, which she got by being raped. For modern day Catholicism, that’s the nail in the coffin of any notion of Catholic ethics.

Hmm.. I’ll have to read up more on the Gregory Paul fella. Although, I don’t feel that society is better off without God, I do know that this “gung-ho absolute truth” nonsense is what’s really hurting societies. The concept of God is only one plausible explanation out of millions of others. To go after one concept with absolute fervency is not only foolish, but can really destroy peoples’ lives.

Dan: Omg! I totally forgot about that! That was such a sick and twisted story… I love the religious attitude of “love the fetus, hate the child” bull. Or as the great George Carlin said, “if you’re pre-born, you’re fine. If you’re pre-school, you’re f***ed”. Applies greatly to that story than any other person that chooses abortion…

If you want to escape from family responsibility or even the responsibility of paying for sexual gratifications, join catholic priesthood. A battery of nuns will be at your beck and call and in case the desires of the flesh get you in the wrong side of law outside the monastery’s wall, you can count on the formidable influence of the church
