“Galileo’s views posed a dilemma for the Magisterium. What he espoused contradicted Scripture, which placed Earth at the center of the universe. If Earth, the home of beings created in the image and likeness of God, was no longer the center of the universe, then it would force the church to reformulate its theology.”

every confirmable fact contradicts scripture

They were not “views” they were new found facts. Unfortunately the church was easily able to incorporate Galileo’s findings into their dogma.
Christianity may not move/change as fast as people like, however they always manage to retain huge segments of the population by shifting just enough to pacify the masses. The lengths clergy will go to in order to retain their grip on humanity is unfortunate and sad, but never underestimate their ability to do so when the situation warrants.

That’s exactly what they did, too. “Reformulate”. The Bible slipped from being a literal truth, to being metaphoric. How many times does this have to happen before society wakes up and realizes that under the microscope, the Bible, and every religious text for that matter, has no validation to reality?
