That’s a very sad and eye-opening article, CaptainZero.
Christianity isn’t a prerequisite for being a bad parent, but a literal interpretation of any holy book will surely lead to no good. I have relatives who were raised in Christian households and they are very decent people and excellent parents.
Thankfully there are no evangelicals in my family.
I’ve always felt that if we were made in God’s image, God must not think very highly of himself.
It’s funny how whenever you talk to a Christian God, always holds the same opinion they do. Regardless of whether they are liberal or ultra conservative.
God doesn’t hate anyone. Thats the most stupid comment I ever heard.People HATE. God is LOVE. I know lots of good parents from all walks of life.It depends on how good they really wana be I guess. I know I”m a good parent, I raised a fine family with Gods help.
Tech. One of the victims in the article Catp posted above was beaten to death by her christian parents with a pipe.
Your god chose for that to happen. Your god decided that the poor girl should die and the method by which it should happen. He also decided it should be her christian parents that did the killing.
Maybe god hated that girl. Maybe god doesn’t exist and the girl simply died because her evil parents were nuts? The simplest answer is usually the right one.
I think this is the most absurd quote I’ve see so far on this site. In fact, it’s not even worth commenting on. Hopefully tomorrow will bring something worth discussing.
Captain, the article you posted is a text book case for our discussion regarding “righteousness & faith” yesterday. What a sad and deadly combination.
Tech, you said, “God is LOVE” and “he hates SIN.”
Did god create sin? If this is true then Love created sin. Also that god hates something that he created. Does this pose a problem for you?
Atheist ,I don’t find it funny and I’m not surprised that all the atheist always pretty much the same opinion on God.
Really? You don’t find it strange that nearly everyone who claims special access to God’s revealed wisdom has a totally different interpretation of that revelation that just happens to coincide with their already established world view. Wow! cognitive dissonance much!
Of course it’s not surprising atheists share a common view of gods. Far be it from me to make an argument from popularity but have you ever considered that it is because we are correct?
Interesting quote in that it twists the old ‘scripture’ into reality. Humans really do invent gods in a way that they can identify with – which is a pretty scary comment on the minds of humans.
But then this site has its own poster child for scary minds.
Atheist , I have considered that you are in all probality correct on some things but not all. Condidering the things of God you know nothing or at least seem to know nothing.
PEB sometimes there are no answers. Who knows what causes a mind to snap. If you want to blame God thats your choice. He has been on trail many times before. My personal view on these people they flipped out , no excuses of any kind will do. That,s the kind of world we live in today.God is basically minding his own business like he was ask to do by so many people. Ex: ( taking prayer out of schools ) etc.
Tech, did god create everythihg? If not, then he is not truly god. You said, “Sin was created by man” So in regards to the creation of sin, Man is more powerful than god? Seriously Tech, answer these questions without contradiction.
I seek no proof of god’s existence. I am merely analyzing your logic. I have never said that there is no god, I have always said that we don’t have a good reason to believe in god. If you keep giving shitty reasons for your conclusions then why would you believe them? Seriously. “God is love” is not a reason to believe in god, it’s a stupid metaphor that means nothing.
If it isn’t a stupid metaphor and God is actually love, then we must conclude that god is sin as well because YOU Tech, YOU and every “I believe because my parents said so” religionist claim that god is in fact everything. So use your own logic to think about your reasons for god’s existence. Only god can be and create everything; bad things are a part of everything; god is bad and good and evil and SIN. God is everything, not just the benevolent and desireable. Look at your reasons! Please, actually try this. Please!
I don’t have time to comment in detail today but I’ll say this:
1. Sin is not a created thing, but a human action.
2. Theologically, evil is a far more problematic issue than sin. After all, it was God who created the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This has messy implications (for both sin and evil) for any believer who cares to actually think about it. This is an understatement.
There is, of course, far more to the story than these two points. I just wanted to go on record as a religionist who at least understands the problem, unlike my fellow religionists here on AQOTD. Gotta go – very busy with life for the next few days.
If God = Love and I believe that Love exists, congratulations! I believe in God. That said, there still seems no more reason to pray to God than there is to pray to love (Aphrodite?) And love does not seem concerned with foreskins or pork eating or wearing clothing with blended fibers or murdering children for disobedience (which is clearly expected in the bible). So, I guess I’m still confused by your theology, Tech.
P.S. Oddly, self love is a punishable “sin” in the bible.
Magicain’treal, If you don’t believe fine. You don’t have to get upset what odds, go on live your life.I’m not loosing any sleep over it nor should you.
Solomon wrote, referring to my post of yesterday::
“To correct you I did’nt say there is no gradual transformation of ape to man.I said there should be a gradual transformation from ape to man if evolution is true.”
Actually, Solomon, it’s YOU who is lying. Let me quote EXACTLY what you said:
“Provide fossil proofs of the gradual transformation of ape to man.
You lousy rants will not be able to.”
See, nothing about “should be” in that sentence whatsoever. Let me check again. Nope, nothing.
Every fossil is a transitional fossil because we are constantly evolving.
Soooooo…..trying to back-peddle now that you’ve been backed into a corner, Solomon? Typical.
Wait a minute…Mohammed the Prophet….Just wait a minute….
I’am not thru yet…
“Provide fossil proofs of the gradual transformation of ape to man.
You lousy rants will not be able to.”
The first sentence is a challenge to your lots to provide fossil proofs of the transformation of ape to man if you claim evolution is true.Thats why it was followed by the second sentence that surely your lots will not be able to produce the fossils coz theres no such sets of fossils ever existed. Why such fossils never existed is because the evolution theory is a hoax.
You are trying to twist my statement but you fail.Witness this viewers.

Yup.
That cheap painter had to thin out the paint to finish the church steeple.
When he was done, the heavens opened up, there was a clap of thunder, and the goddess shouted out, “repaint, you thinner! and thin no more!”

If you get time Oxy, what defines any human action as a “sin”? after all sin is not just man behaving badly, it is measured against a moral standard.

I am glad to have him/her shout if it means that she/he will not use explosives on innocents.
