In a religious persons own mind they are always right. “The bible/quran says so” or “god did it” will suffice as an answer to anything thrown at them despite the overwhelming amount of logic, evidence or simple common sense.
It’s an incredibly arrogant position to take which atheists are often wrongly accused of.
The definition of “bigotry” is:
•bigot – a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from his own
Sol & tech – you’re respective religious texts actually encourages you to be bigots. Congratulations.
Ok – done that. I did look in the mirror and saw a well balanced, educated, rationalist. Getting on a bit but good looking in his day. But no bigot.
Ah – I know where you are going wrong, tech. When you look in a mirror you see yourself so we won’t see the bigot that you can see in your mirror. Simples.
What is worse HS is that sol & tech probably aren’t hateful people. Their religion tells them they will have a happy after life ONLY if they hate gay people….and people of other religions, women, atheists, abortion doctors, evolution scientists, condom manufacturers etc etc.
Holy Smoke clarify. Do you love everyone? I hate no one. I may dislike their ways. What I always say is,” to each his own”. As for you Peb it can’t your mouth your running off at.What load.
What a contradiction:
“I may dislike their ways. What I always say is,” to each his own”.
I’ll re-word that for you. “To each his own but I dislike you for it”
“No but its not something I could ignore if I were in the presence of one.”
Just out of curiosity – what would you do? Say something? Walk away? Pray for their sins? Attack them?
Your reply was not logical. As many christians have told me, they dislike gays because it’s in the bible. This quote describes that scenario perfectly.
I also know how to mind my own business.I’m a gentlemen for most part unless attacked. 51 % gentlemen 49% of the other type. Don’t Push It Peb or unholy smoke.
Your bible says to love everyone, so you do.
Your bible says gays are an abomination, so you disagree with their lifestyle.
Your bible says to kill every living thing in Sodom, so you do it. Your god fearing ancestors did this even though it obviously conflicts with the first line above. You love them, so you kill them.
The bottom line Tech is that your are not free to think for yourself. You MUST do what your bible commands in order to be a good christian. I suspect that you agree but are not free to say it. Your ability to express free will is seriously hampered by your religion.
Are gays going to be allowed into heaven, even if they refuse to ask for forgiveness for being gay?
You have already answered your own question ,you know before you ask.I judge no one nor do I hate anyone. If you don’t believe that, thatsok, but don’t put words in my mouth.I’ve been around long enough and seen lots.Im not easily awed by anything. So save you big dumps for those who deserve it.
The thing I do hate is an attitude taken by the atheist that its their call in life to pick on everything and everyone they so desire. You all need start trying to do something good for a change.Remember when you point a finger there are three fingers pointing back at you.
we’re not picking on your way of life, we’re simply trying to educate. why is it that there is so much controversy about evolution in american classrooms? because of religion. why is there an ongoing conflict between palestine and israel? because of religion. no atheist is advocating that we should force people from following religion, just that we should find a way to move them away from it through means of critical thinking. i dont care that you are a devout christian, even though most of your beliefs are nonsensical. but i do care when people like you try to stop a child from receiving a proper education or cause unjustifiable violence around the in the name of religion.
Listen here friend if it wasn’t religion it would be something else.I recent every remark you made above. You can’t generalize everything to make your point. What got america in the state its in,is the people. They turned their backs on God.You should have a little more respect for Christianity there is a lot of good Christians in this world we’re not all hypocrites. What would you call a proper education. A lesson in science. Oh wait maybe teach them an alternate life style.
america turned its back on god?! americans are the worst besides the middle east about religion! the cross has blended in with the american flag! what a dumb thing to say tech. im not saying that there are not good christians, but christianity like almost every religion, has a direct path to immoral behavior. and of course there will always be something else that causes problems, but why keep something around that is so damaging? why should i respect a religion that hinders education and threatens children with a pit of fire unless they believe a man rose from the dead? im not picking one religion over another, i think all religions are harmful. a proper education in science is very important to understanding the world. and aside from that, i think you can be a better person without religion. why do you have to expect a reward or be scared into doing good? thats a terrible lifestyle to have. it’d be very sad if thats how man actually conducted his ethical behavior.
I don’t understand Tech’s comment about not hating anyone. In certain circumstances to not hate is in my view immoral. I hate suicide bombers and the ideology that they serve. I hate pedophiles and pity their congregations. “Love the sinner hate the sin” may make sense when the sinner is a drug addict that commits crimes to support an addiction. But extending this grace to, say, Baby Doc Duvalier is ludicrous.

Religion helps people to hold all sorts of unsavoury and unethical ideas.

This one is just for Solly.
April 23rd, 2010 at 11:14
What? You trying to tell me that sol is the only bigot on here. Boys look in the mirror and you may find a few more.
April 23rd, 2010 at 11:20
tech:
Let he who is innocent throw the first stone…
Don’t ya just love quoting that back at religious folk!
April 23rd, 2010 at 11:37
Tech
Where among the atheists here do you see evidence of bigotry exactly?

Why is this quote true? Example: I dislike gays because the bible calls them an abomination.
Presto: an instant reason to hate utilizing the bible to cover your ass.
The quote is accurate.

Love has nothing to do with it. You are biased against homosexuals because your bible tells you so. Do you deny that?
April 23rd, 2010 at 16:28
Biased? No but its not something I could ignore if I were in the presence of one.I’m just not into that.

Why it is appropriate to condemn gays=They retards biological norms, does not help reproduction at all & agents of HIV.
