Really? Muslims form only 3% of the population.
Unfortunately for them they are one of the poorest groups in British society, with poor levels of educational attainment and difficulties in integrating into wider society. Other ethnic minorities do better in this respect for some reason.

Those stats make interesting reading if they are verifiable, and I would like to check out the source. It is not surprising that 82% say that religion is the cause of harmful division. But of course it’s always ‘the other religion’ that is the main cause. The non believing 63% is somewhat worrying as it means that a whopping 37% are still brainwashed and quite content to let others tell them what to think and when to think it.

The reason is that they are oppressed, thats it. Look at other wealthy muslim states like Saudi or Brunei. They live on wealth. Most of their slaves are Atheists looking for careers.But they are the silent survivor. Lots and lots of them have embraced Islam silently. All walks of race have been hurriedly and secretly embraced Islam.Don’t be surprised one day they made up the majority.

Bizarrely I think the UK is so irreligious because it is not constituted as a secular nation. Religion is enshrined in our politics within the House of Lords and Anglicanism is an Established religion. Consequently up until recently it has felt secure enough not to over proselytise, allowing a relatively well educated population to drift away from it.
The U.S on the other hand is a freemarket for competing faiths and flavours of Christianity. A supposedly secular nation, it has become a battleground for religious competition, keeping the agenda high in public consciousness.

Sol’s point about Islam in the UK is specious by the way. As has been pointed out about 3% of the population are notionally Muslim. But only recent immigrants seems to be particularly devout. Second and third generations that I come across are drifting into that wishy washy “culturally” religious stage that will eventually result in agnosticism.
Oh and Sol. Rich Islamic countries are only rich because of oil. They will fail when the oil runs out (or when we find less polluting alternatives) because the population will still be ignorant and won’t be able to compete globally.
